Inspiration
Join us in celebrating 200 years of the modern railway by visiting ‘Inspiration’ The Railway 200 Exhibition! This unique travelling exhibition, curated in partnership with The National Railway Museum, features interactive displays, inspiring stories, and hands-on activities for all age groups to enjoy. The train features four carriages:
- Railway Firsts: Showcasing groundbreaking innovations in railway history
- Wonderlab on Wheels: Offering engaging hands-on activities to explore the science and engineering behind railways
- Your Railway Future: Uncovering some of the more hidden roles in rail and encouraging people to consider a career in rail to shape the next 200 years
- The Partner Zone: A place for local organisations to tell their stories (content will vary event to event)
You'll be joined by a fantastic team dedicated to making your experience memorable. The train is fully accessible and to ensure a quality experience and time to enjoy the displays, visits are structured in 15-minute intervals.
Events

Glasgow Central station will be hosting Inspiration from 11 October – 12 October, 2025.

By bike: Cycle storage for 70 bikes
By bus: Main bus stops: Hope Street, Union Street, Argyle Street and Waterloo Street.
An inter-station bus leaves from Gordon Street on a circular route to Queen Street station, Buchanan bus station and back to Glasgow Central.
Airport buses leave from Waterloo Street (Hope Street exit).
By National Rail: Glasgow Central is on the West Coast Mainline

By bus: Airport buses and city tours leave from Waverley Bridge regularly through the day. Local buses leave from Princes Street and North Bridge. Buses for the rest of Scotland leave from St Andrew’s Square or Waterloo Place.
By National Rail: Edinburgh Waveley is on the East Coast Mainline.
By tram: Trams connect the city centre with Edinburgh Airport. The nearest stop is on St Andrews Square. More information can be found at EdinburghTrams.com.
